Important note: Previously we had accidentally shipped the dou (soundbox) with a larger sao. Not knowing they were mismatched, the customer innocently used their strength to jam the sao into the dou, cracking the wood of the bottom board (with the round hole). Needless to say, we sent them a replacement shamisen, and I repaired the dou in California. This crack is fully viewable on the last picture, so please consider it in your purchasing decision. Also, please note that the crack 100% fixed as it is fully filled and sealed with industrial strength super glue (it looks clear due to high polishing). With that said, the round hole has slightly widened, and you might want to wrap some paper around the sao spike (nakagosaki) to prevent it from wiggling. Here's some stats about this used shamisen! Wood: Karin Skin: Hakuho (synthetic skin) Sawari: Azuma Sawari Neck: Tanzao (shorter neck) Brief word about Tanzao: While there is no official length for Tanzao (short neck), they tend to be a few centimeters shorter than full length shamisen. It's really not much shorter, but it's very fun and easy to play because the notes are closer together, and so the fingers don't need to stretch as far. The only difficulty is for players who use Fujaku (adhesive position mark strip). Fujaku is made for the scale length of a full size shamisen, and so the if it's attached to a shorter shamisen, the position marks on the strip won't align with the notes on the shamisen.
