SORAN BUSHI is one of Japan’s most popular min’yo (folk songs) from Hokkaido, Northern Japan.
In olden times, fishermen sang songs when they fished the herring every early spring.
Soran Bushi was originally a style of time-marking shouting while using herring nets from the sea, and is now performed all over Japan in schools and festivals.
