This fukuro is made of rice paper. Like a traditional desiccant, it absorbs moisture and thus is put over the dou in order to absorb moisture from the natural skin. (Not required for synthetic skin)

Washi fukuro is initially crisp and sturdy, but eventually becomes very easy to tear. Washi fukuro need to be replaced every so often as they become saturated with moisture, so when they reach a stage of frequent tearing is a good sign that it’s time to replace the bag.
