A standard kind of pitch pipe, which is used by a majority of shamisen players. Simply blow into the designated hole for the pitch you want to tune the string to, and raise/lower the pitch of the string until the sound matches the pitch emitted by the pitch pipe! For some it can be easier than using an electronic tuner (which works just as well).

This is a very special set of ito made by Marusan Hishimoto Co. (the most trusted maker of shamisen strings, and the only brand of string I sell in the Bachido Store) In the Tsugaru Ito Set - Black all strings are dyed black and look very striking against a white shamisen skin. Just be careful when playing shamisen in the dark!

The Gokujo ito are the considered to be the highest quality string for shamisen, and ideal for stage use. Note: The ichi no ito will not fit in a nagauta/jiuta shamisen, as the diameter of the string holes in the itomaki are smaller. It can be done if you widen the string hole first, but I've tried using such a thick string on a nagauta shamisen as an experiment, and feel that the tone of the thinner string balances much better with the smaller size of the nagauta shamisen.

This is one of my favorite types of cases to use when I travel locally, whether it be walking or driving to a gig, or taking the bus to San Jose to lead my group shamisen class. It is so light and easy to carry on my back, and offers just enough foam protection where I can feel at ease if it gets lightly bumped.

Lid of Mitsuori Case has a special compartment for the bachi, and a side pouch for strings and yubikake. Straps connect on the backside for carrying on your back. If you don’t need to carry it on your back, the straps can conveniently slip into a zip-up pouch (shown in pictures).
